a condensed version of my weekend

I'm pretty sure all Arizonans were pleasantly surprised to experience the first day of fall with the rest of the country in true form... with a high of 88. It's not something we say a lot this time of year in Phoenix, I mean -it doesn't really start to cool off till late October. But don't let me stop you Mother Nature, because I will welcome cooler weather all year long!

what I'm linking, Friday

I made these bats a few years back and they are kind-of my favorite Halloween decoration!

I've always wanted to make these spider webs and it just looks so easy!

Can you say easy paper plate bunting?!

a condensed version of my weekend

As I upload these pictures I can feel the fat piling onto my body. You could say I had a lot of ice cream this weekend. As I was editing these pictures I couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed at all the sugar and sweets I had! It's obvious I love ice cream -specifically chocolate ice cream- and apparently I just can't get enough! Blame it all on girls night and having fun with friends, because there really isn't anything better to eat when you're with friends! Riiiight?!

what I'm liking, friday

It's officially Autumn next week and our temperatures are staring to dip below 100! Are we crazy for thinking that 90 degrees is soooo nice when you're in the shade -YES! But we live in Arizona so that's-just-how-it-goes! This week Hazel and I have been making some fun fall (and Halloween) treats, she really seems to be enjoying these baking and making sessions -maybe we have a cook on our hands?! Anyways, here are some of the things we are going to be making in the next couple weeks:

traveling with a toddler and bringing snacks

Whenever Hazel and I go somewhere I've always got a bag of snacks in toe. Snacks for her and snacks for me. But when we went to San Diego a few weeks back bringing snacks was a whole different story because we were traveling and needed a variety of snacks. Here are a few things we brought on our trip:

a condensed version of my weekend

Friday was National Teddy Bear Day -let's get real, every day is some kind of National Day.  But this one was fun to celebrate because I got to take Hazel to what I thought was going to be a quick trip to Build a Bear. Long story short we were in line for almost three hours. I know, I know, you wouldn't have waited in line for that. So what happened was... we were waiting in line for about 30 minutes when we finally made it to the front of the store, we get there, get our bears and then we wait. It was one of those waiting games where I didn't think it could really take that-long. You know what I mean? You're waiting in line and you're-right-there so you don't feel like you should move because surely the line will move any-minute-now!!! Well, that's how the whole thing went down, Hazel had fun though and surprisingly did really well in line. She still remembers kissing the heart, putting it in the bears back, stuffing the bear, and the lady sewing up the bear. So for me it was worth the wait!
Our mornings are starting to cool off -which usually happens this time of year- so we have a few good hours of outside time. Saturday morning we headed to the park, Hazel really like to swing now, she'll giggle, and smile real big often requesting more! It seems like just yesterday she was begging me to take her out of the swing because she hated it, but I guess that's what happens when the seasons change.

Saturday morning we also visited Healing Field in Tempe. It was quite amazing, breathtaking, and overwhelming all in the same moment. Each flag represented a person who died on 9/11, each flag had the person's name, and specific information about that person's life. I couldn't help but want to read about all the people, to get a quick glimpse into their lives. All these lives now gone. I will never forget visiting this site, seeing all these flags, and a feeling that I can't quite make words of, but it felt like closeness.  I felt close to these people, like they were watching, watching all of us read about them and the life they leave behind. Where were you on September 11th?

Happy Monday

what I'm liking, Friday

I think this week everyone officially started posting about Fall. While the rain we got this week was nice it's feeling nothing like fall here in Phoenix, but I'll enjoy everyone's fall pictures while inside. My favorite thing about this time of year is all the decorations that get brought out. Halloween decoration, Thanksgiving decorations, and Christmas decorations! I cannot wait for Hazel to see it all this year, last year was so fun but I have a feeling this year is going to be even better with her. Here are some of my favorite Fall decorations and pictures:

There are so many center piece ideas over here, but I really love the one pictured!

I think my craft bone is itching to make one of these

What a festive front porch this is!

Cute and simple little candle idea.

This mantel is beautiful!

Fun decorative piece the kids can play with.

Fun festive sign to wrap it all up!

This week's recipes:
Monday: Chicken Cesar Wraps
Tuesday: Baked Chimmichanugas
Wednesday: Sloppy Jo Cornbread Casserole
Thursday: Leftovers
Friday: Texas Toast Garlic Bread Pizza

7 ways to explore San Diego for free!

A few weeks ago we took Hazel on her very first vacation.  Although we were there for only two days they were probably the best two days of our summer break. We had so many fun (FREE) things to do -and to be honest we could have spread the whole vacation out into another day or two.  It was fun to be at the beach and be outdoors -the weather was perfect, and it's nice to have such a great memory of our first family vacation.  Here are some of the fun things we did while we were in San Diego -did I mention they are FREE!

Balboa Park: There are so many things to do at this park and we could have spent all afternoon there.  From little kid train rides, to playing at the park, walking through the museums, to walking around the gardens. If the weather is great -like it was when we were there- you'll be fine just walking around and exploring. But, if you're more of a planner -like me- then you'll want to do some research on where to park and what attractions you want to visit. We were looking for more kid friendly attractions so we went to the train ride, carousel and garden exhibit -the train ride and carousel did cost a couple dollars though. I also would have liked to visit one of the play grounds but we ran out of time. Balboa Park is a must see if you're in San Diego.

Belmont Park: Free admission and free parking, you don't really see this in San Diego so enjoy it! Belmont is a beach front park with a good handful of amusement park rides and fun games to play.  This was our first stop of the trip and Hazel's face lit up when she saw all the attractions.  We walked around for a bit and then headed straight for the ocean.

Mission Beach: You can't go to San Diego and not visit the beach at least once. Park at the Belmont and walk to the beach (if you can't find parking there, look for other spots near by, you might want to research that too). We got lucky and found parking spots each time, if you go between the off hours parking is easier to find.  Hazel loved running to the water and playing in the sand. To this day she requests: sand!

Mormon Battalion: Learn about the Mormon Battalion and pan for gold. Completely free and you learn a little piece of U.S. and LDS history.

Old Town San Diego: It's loaded with fun places and delicious food, and there are even specific nights when they have live bands! We didn't really walk through old town, we drove through it and walked along the side street, but it smelt so good! We did however eat at a delicious pizza shop -Pizza Bella Italian Bistro. Brand had the pesto pizza and Hazel and I had the cheese, both very delicious pizzas that we highly recommend.

Children's Pool in La Jolla: If you go when the tide is out you'll be able to see the seals and sea lions (we went in the morning).  It's fun to walk out on the pier they have, watch the sea lions wiggle their bodies onto the land, and watch the waves crash on the rocks. They also have little beaches you can go to on either side of the sea lions. It was nice because it was a little cove type beach and I felt like I could let Hazel wonder a bit in the sand, without worrying about her getting too far away. (Obviously we watched her closely around the water.)

San Diego Temple: If you're looking for a beautiful place to quietly walk around visit the San Diego Temple. The gardens are filled with the prettiest flowers and the temple is nothing short of amazing. It's also about a five minute drive from the children's pool in La Jolla so you might as well make the stop.

Have your been to San Diego recently? What are your favorite things to do there? Let us know below in the comments!

a condensed version of my weekend

So our plans for the weekend were all over the place. First we were going camping and then we got sick. Then we were going to go somewhere and explore -I don't know you guys, I've got the itch to get out and go! And neither of these things happened, in fact something really unfun, more tiering and backbreaking happened... we did yard work. If you follow me on snapchat you would have seen the forest our backyard once was. In my opinion there are way too many plants in our backyard (we're renting so we can't really change it).  But this just makes doing the yardwork that much more tedious the more plants... the more work... So, we did what any decent person would do, and we hacked all the plants, cut off their heads in a manner of speaking. Our backyard looks so bare and I can actually see over I fence into the green belt, it's almost weird.  But, I'll get used to it.
Friday night we had a date night, and on Instagram I talked about how I'm the newest brand ambassador for Dating Divas (seriously go check them out).  They have great date night ideas and there is always something new a different they are coming up with.  Stay tuned for some coupon codes too!
Today we had some donuts, went to the park, lounged around, and had some dinner. I had bigger plans for our Monday, but once again they didn't happen. And really, that's okay. I think today was a good day, the weekend was good and we got some time to relax and have fun. Hazel really likes being home now because this weekend I pulled out her doll house and she has been playing with it non-stop, I'm not kidding I think that's all she's played with this weekend. She really loves it!

What were your Labor Day plans?! Also, what's the deal with the whole no white after Labor Day thing? I'm not a fan...
