a condensed version of my weekend

So Hazel has been blowing raspberries for a few weeks now and last night she decided to try it when she was eating dinner.  It was a mess, it got on my face, her face, her clothes, and of course her highchair,  but she was sure proud of herself. How do you stop her from blowing raspberries while she eats though? I've tried ignoring her and positive reinforcement when she doesn't do it, but I guess I just have to figure it out. Maybe it's another one of those phases.

We also tried on some headbands this weekend. Let's just say Hazel would look good in a paper sack so she looks good in everything, but I really liked this little number we got from Tinyco. I've also found the best way to get her to smile for pictures. She really loves a good monster noise -at first it scares her but she cracks up when she realizes what is going on. And is it just me or does she look really big in this picture?!
Hazel is the kind of girl that would rather play with your glasses than her own toys and her most favorite thing to play with is a laptop. Little blogger in training this girl, she sure likes the click of the keyboard.

And my favorite face of her's is when she wakes up and that big smile she gives me, oh I just love it!

Happy Monday!

a condensed version of my weekend

Hazel turned seven months old this weekend and I cannot get over it. She is getting bigger and bigger, and she is learning so much. This weekend was the last weekend before Brand went back to school and it all didn't feel real, summer has been good to us and maybe, just maybe we took advantage of how much free time we had this summer.  We celebrated a lot with friends -which is always my favorite, and we relaxed and just hung out.

I am still really good at taking blurry pictures of Hazel, I'll tell you that. She's super wiggly these days, and she has a mind of her own, so if I can get her to hold still for those three seconds while I take her picture it's almost a miracle. She really thinks it's quite funny to watch videos of herself. I don't know if she likes seeing herself or if she likes hearing our voices.  It's the cutest thing to see her smile so big.

I can't get over her. And because I can't, she is what my weekend is all about!

Happy Monday!

taking time for you and the best kind of on the go snack

Life is busy wither you work or have kids, we all know what it's like. Sometimes life is so busy that it can be hard to find time to take a break for yourself, and sometimes I can't find a second to just eat a healthy snack
You're at work and your work load is piled up to your eye balls and you feel like there's no end in sight, but it's eleven and you just neeeed that morning break or you might just go nuts. Or maybe your baby was up all night long and woke up at the crack of dawn and she wont stay asleep unless you hold her real close, but you just want to get maybe ten minutes to yourself before your arms fall off and your back gives out.

I've been in both places, and seriously there is nothing better than finding the moment where you get to just sit back and relax for a minute. And for me this break time is right were I get myself a nice healthy snack and just kick back. Before I had Hazel much of my relaxing time was spent crocheting, it was my favorite way to relax, my favorite thing to do really. It was my me time, my #FeelGooder moment, and back then I got to crochet a lot. But alas, I have this adorable baby who requires my attention -and I'm not complaining, she's the best!
Whenever I'm out running errands or just going to do some window shopping -which is what I seem
to be doing more of because little Hazel likes getting out of the house- I can get so hungry.  I can anticipate this moment each time I go out and so -because I've learned my lesson- I bring a favorite nutrition bar, something I know is good for me, and something I can easily carry in the diaper bag.

My favorite flavor is oatmeal chocolate chunk -it taste like cookies and cream ice cream, it's delicious and so very good for you. Go here and get a coupon to try it for yourself!

head sunburns are the worst so let's not get them

hat: c/o Village Hat Shop, cover up: (gifted) , sandals: target -black no longer available (white)

It's summer time.  It's hot. The sun it out. And because the sun is out and it's hot, we swim. I love being out in the pool during the summer time. It's one of the only ways to survive an Arizona summer that's for sure! But, my least favorite part about the sun is getting my scalp and face burnt -also shoulders, don't forget those. Sunburns are the worst and they are so very bad for your skin, Covering up when you are out in the sun is the best way to keep your self protected.

Since you can't really put sunblock in your hair this Lahaina Sun Hat really comes in handy. With a UPF rating of 50+ you can bet your scalp and face will be protected from the sun with this sun hat on. I love this hat because you can wear it two different ways, also it comes in 25 different colors -my choice: aqua.

I don't know about you, but I'm all about keeping my scalp un-burnt. And so I'll be keeping this sun hat riiiiight next to my swim suit and pretty soon it's going to smell just like sunblock and it will have me remembering these warm pool filled summer days.

Happy swimming!

a condensed version of my weekend.

Most of our weekend was spent playing video games, that's right, video games. I'm not even one bit ashamed because I was playing too, and I had fun. That's right, it was fun. We have become addicted to the wii. It's not the first time, it seems to come in spurts and this spurt might last for only a week -booooo Dental school, but we will take what we've got. I kid you not, all Saturday afternoon, dinner break and then again till allllmost midnight, then Sunday night and Monday night too. I wouldn't be surprised if Brand whipped the games out again today. I guess there isn't any such thing as too much gaming especially when you are about to be ran over with a load of studying. Things are about to change quick over in this house. But as for now, we play on.

Happy Tuuuuesday!

Blueberry Banana Lactation Muffins

So a few months back my friend Mary sent me this delicious recipe -she also made it for me and added flax seed- so you could say this is her recipe and not mine really. I like doing half a recipe because they take quite a while to bake and half makes the perfect dozen so I don't have to heat up the house too much.

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 mashed bananas
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
pinch of salt
3/4 cup blueberries
1/4 cup flax seed -add more if you prefer

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

in a bowl beat together sugar and butter until creamy.
add mashed bananas and egg to mixture -beat together.
add baking soda, salt, flour, and flax seed -beat well.
add blueberries and stir in with a spoon.
line a muffin pan and add mixture.

bake for 30 minutes.
Hazel decided she wanted to help me in the kitchen this morning, and to my surprise she could pick up the bin of blueberries!

a condensed version of my weekend

Let me start by saying that if there was the most perfect dog for Hazel to have as a pet it would be Boots. If you haven't heard about Boots read about him here -you can also google 'Boots the kitten nanny', he's quite popular. He has the sweetest temperament and was SO good with Hazel. Saturday we went down to AHS where Brand and I used to volunteer. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone and introducing them to Hazel. She liked seeing all the puppies and looking at everything. I think she especially liked being able to go in the puppy kennel and have a puppy lick her face -so sweet!  (To see why everyone was in the kennel go here.)

So Hazel had another busy weekend, this girl loves getting out and seeing new things. I promise, I'm not crazy, she rally enjoys being out, she loves people, and she loves smiling.  It's fun to see her interact with others sometimes I wonder what is going on in that little head of hers. She zonked on the drive home, which was nice because it was quite the drive. Later that afternoon we headed over to her cousin's baptism -I can't believe Hazel's cousin is 8!
Hazel has been loving solids, she loves squash, sweet potatoes, green beans, and puffs.  She isn't a fan of carrots and it seems that bananas back her up. But I love how excited she gets when it's time to eat, her feet start to twirl, and her hands get all antsy, and she starts to say mmmmm.  I love this little lady and her fun personality.

Yesterday at church third hour was so packed that we had to sit in the back row in the last seat on the end by the wall -if you have a baby you know that it's the last seat you ever want to sit in. But, we sat there and as the lady up front chatted so did Hazel -I think she thought it was some kind of girls night or something. She was so very excited to see the speaker up front, she got all giggly and cooed and ahhhed. Quite the social butterfly this girl is.  I'm in love.
