influenster: Colgate® Optic White™ Toothbrush + Built-In Whitening Pen

When I first got this Colgate Optic White Toothbrush + Build-in Whitening Pen voxbox I was excited because I have really been wanting to whiten my teeth. I used to use those white strips in high school and I remember looking so funny when I had them on.  I couldn't hardly talk and somehow all the saliva from my mouth attached its self to the strips, not a pleasant experience.

So, when I read the instructions on how to use this whitening pen I was a little confused at first.  It's advertised as a toothbrush with a built in whitening pen, so I automatically thought that you put the whitening gel in the toothbrush and it comes out through the toothbrush.  Not the case.  First you brush your teeth, then you whiten with the pen, and then you can put the whitening pen inside the toothbrush.  It's a storage place.

The whitening pen worked really good, and I was able to see results after the first two times I used the pen.  The only thing I didn't like about the whitening pen was that it was sometimes difficult to apply to my teeth, the rubbery bristles of the pen made it so that the whitening gel would adhere to it instead of my teeth.  It was nice to not have to worry about having to take off white strips and I could just go about my business, I didn't even have to brush it off.

One tip for you new users out there make sure your teeth aren't super wet and that they don't have a lot of saliva on them so that the gel doesn't clump up.

I received these products complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster.

the grass is greener where you water it

shrt: c/o choies, jeans: kohls, booties: plato's closet arrowhead (buy), watch: gifted (buy)

I've been thinking a lot about these next few months.
So much will happen and it's such an exciting time in our lives.
I finally graduate college with my bachelors degree and Brand graduates from the masters program and moves on to dental school.
And then I've been thinking about the after part.
After I graduate what's my plan?
And I think as it gets closer and closer I've been feeling more stressed about the whole situation.

I never really wanted to work, although I understand it because there's got to be some kind of money coming in.
I've just wanted to just be a mom.
But, really the last thing I ever saw myself doing was being a working woman.
Not that I completely hated the idea-although it was extremely stressful at times-but generally that's not my idea of a good time.
Working the Corporate America life, the 8-5 monday through friday.
I've done it.
I lived the Corporate America life for 4 years.
And I worked hard.
Through those years I continued working on my education, because it was important to me and because if ever anything happened to Brand I would want/need something to fall back on.

I graduated high school in 07 and went to college that fall semester.
And I've been in college ever since.
It's a super-senior kind of thing.
But, I'm not ashamed of it.

I never planned for this to happen, I didn't think it would take me nearly seven years to get my bachelors degree.
In reality do we ever?
These sorts of things are never really planned are they?

I've gotten comments about my current situation a lot.
When are you having a baby?
What are your plans after you graduate?
What do you want to do?
Are you pregnant yet?

Some people say I'm lucky to have had so much time alone with just Brand and I.
And I agree.
These past 5 and a half years have been great for us and I'm so grateful for them!
I've learned so much about Brand and we've gone through so many things together already.

Some people tell me that it must be nice to just be able to pick up and leave for a fun night on a whim.
It must be great to get to sleep through the night and not be woken up by cries of a baby.
It must be so wonderful to be able to sit through church and be able to listen to what is being taught.
And sure, it is wonderful!

But if I had the choice to choose between being a mom and working, I'd choose being a mom in a heartbeat.

But when people say these things to me I just think
the grass is greener where you water it.

Be grateful for what you have.
You don't know the hard work others have gone through to get where they are.
And you don't know where they find the greener grass.

Rent Back: why renting is better than buying

Everyone that has been through college will completely agree with me when I talk about how expensive college text books are... especially when you buy them at the school bookstore.
And I'm pretty sure our teachers are told/paid to say "you can pick up all these books at our bookstore after class" to indoctrinate us further.
While half the students smile and shake their heads in agreement, because they don't care how much the books cost.  The others, like me who are the complete opposite, find the cheapest option out there.

So all you college students I bring you
RentBack.com

A few of the perks you can find at RentBack.com include:
saving 40-90% off bookstore prices
free shipping both ways
you can highlight in the textbooks
they have flexible renting periods and
they donate to Operation Smile with each textbook rented.

RentBack.com is an extension of CampusBookRentals.com, but with RentBack.com you have the option to sell your books to other students giving you the ability to make 2-4x the money you would just renting.

Both programs are great ways to get your text books for a much cheaper price.

Anyways, I love renting books, it's so much cheaper and less of a hassle after class is over-meaning you don't have a huge pile of books stacked somewhere in your apartment taking up an enormous amount of space.

color fun fest 5k

This weekend Brand and I went to the Color Fun Fest 5k and we had lots of fun. Honestly, running in a bunch of color is so much more fun then just running-trust me.  And for once I actually wanted to run, maybe it was the fact that I wanted to get to the next color, yeah probably.

COLOR FUN FEST 5K is an EPIC color fun run that heightens positive emotions by combining a 5k fun run with the energy of electronic dance music, all while coloring the crowd with thousands of pounds of vibrant colored powder. The event is family-friendly, and features a post-run celebration with DJ entertainment.

A portion of the proceeds will be benefiting Free Arts for Abused Children, a nonprofit organization that gives children that have suffered adversity a chance to express themselves through art. Bring arts and crafts donations for the kids! The organization will be accepting donations at the event and there will also be a special performance by the children for all attendees. Another organization involved with this event is called Hope Kids, an institution that helps the families of children with life-threatening medical conditions find hope and enjoy life with a loving and supportive community of compassionate people. Sometimes people need a reminder to live every day with a smile on their face, and Hope Kids delivers a vital daily dose of hope.

Who should attend: Whole community- including kids/parents, couples, groups of friends, fitness gurus, dance enthusiasts, runners, joggers, walkers, bloggers, couch potatoes, the young, the old, and basically everyone and anyone that likes to have fun!

Check to see if the Color Fun Fest is on its way to your city next.

according to audrey

sunglasses: c/o choies, shirt: c.o choies, skirt: jcpenny (similar), flats: target (similar), watch: no longer sold (similar

First, let me state the facts, I am no where near as cool as Audrey Hepburn, but I'd like to think that I can try to be.

It was one of those nights that I found myself home alone.
Brand was at school studying the night away, I was-making cookies or crocheting, one of the two- and I turned on Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Audrey Hepburn is such a classy lady.

According to Audrey your brow pencil needs to be a foot long, and your eyebrows in general always look amazing.
After I saw her use that eyebrow pencil I had to find one for myself, unfortunately I haven't but if you know where I can find one I'd really appreciate it!

According to Audrey your hair will always look beautiful.
My main question is how is she able to get such an amazing poof and pull it all together so quickly?

According to Audrey outfits are best accessorized with big black hats and big black sunglasses.
I can kind-of pull off the sunglasses, but hats in general don't look good on me.  Lucky for her she can pull anything off.

According to Audrey you must call everyone darling.
Preeeety sure after I watched the movie I wanted to call everyone *darling*, but I couldn't come to terms with looking like a complete nut.

According to Audrey you need ear plugs to sleep.
I never understood those ear plugs, and they have tassels on them?

That girl.

how to make the perfect molten lava cake

If there is anything that could get me to break my diet it would be this. This cake is perfect for birthdays, holidays, graduations, and even just because. It's one of the best and most easiest ways to make molten lava cake, and like I said yesterday this rice cooker is going to be my new best friend.

What you'll need:
1 package of Cake Mix (Devils Food)-and the ingredients on the package
1 can of chocolate frosting.
Rice Cooker Plus

First pour the cake mix in the bowl, add all the ingredients, and mix it all together.

Once everything is mixed take the can of frosting and scrape out the frosting. Try to get it all together and put it in the middle of the bowl of cake mix batter.

Snap both lids on the bowl and place in the microwave.

Microwave on high for 8 minutes.

Once the 8 minutes are over take the rice cooker out (don't forget your gloves!) and remove both lids.

This should sit for 20 minutes to cool.

Once it has cooled move it onto a serving platter. For this move I vined it, just go here.

More than likely you will get spillage like we did, if you want to prevent this let is sit for a bit longer or get a bigger plate.  I personally like the spillage because it gives you more lava to eat!

a condensed version of my weekend + link up

Happy Monday friends! I had one of those calendar marking weekends. My brother got his mission call! I cannot believe that I'm going through this whole missionary thing again. I hope to be able to do better emotionally, I'm such a cry baby! So ends up my brother is going to Honduras-second worst country in the world for manslaughter..... grrrrrreeeeat. I'm so excited for him and can't wait to see him progress! It's so weird to think my little brother is going on a mission.  I really can't stop talking about how excited I am for him though. Seriously.

And I think I've talked about how much I really like Sundays, right? Seriously my most favorite day of the week.  You can't beat spending all day with Brand and then spending the evening with our families.  Yesterday we made a molten lava cake in a rice cooker, in the microwave. You guys need to buy this rice cooker, it's about to change my life, I mean desserts, rice, mashed potatoes, pasta, steamed vegetables, come on!  I'm going to try and post the recipe this week so stay tuned!
This morning on my way to work the sky was so beautiful and bright, so bright that I thought I was an hour late to work. And in Arizona there is no such thing as daylight savings time-thank heavens, so I knew I was good.

This week is my spring break week, this seems to be the last little break before the final push towards the end of the semester. So, you could say I'm excited about the end of spring break, it means six weeks till I'm completely done with school. Seriously guys, this is nuts!

Hope you all had great weekends!  Link up your weekends!

awkward and awesome

top: gifted (Midwestern Dental), necklace: c/o, jeans: nordstrom (similar), flats: target (similar), watch: no longer sold (similar

awkward
- Standing in line at Joann's waiting to check out and the lady behind me doesn't understand what 'too close' means. I had my arms folded and tried to turn from side to side but couldn't because that's how close she was.
- People picking groups in class and you're the lone ranger. "Hey guys, does someone need a partner? I don't have one." #storyofmylife
- Walking out of a chic-fil-a, making my way through alllllll the people, and I get out side and I have random baby vomit on my pants... did I walk by a baby?

awesome
- News about Brand getting into Dental School
- Learning how to quilt!
- Sitting in class yesterday and the guest speaker asks us to introduce ourselves and say what we plan to do, professionally after we graduate. Everyone says their peace and I say "I'm Alyssa, I don't plan to do the masters program, and professionally I just want to be a mom." Everyone loved it and I got the whole class to laugh... only because it was one of those simple realistic types of things.
- When you turn on Pandora two months after Christmas and still have Christmas music queued to play.
- Making plans for our summer vacation, we've never been on a 'real' vacation together since our honeymoon, so this should be fun!
- Realizing that I'm half way to graduation, looks like I need to start decorating my cap!

a condensed version of my weekend + link up

Another weekend fleeeew right by as I sat around and just watched. Last week Brand had his quarterly break from school and so he got a little bit of r and r. Unfortunately I had work and school so we didn't spend a whole lot of time together, but at least I got to see him quite a bit!  It's one of the things I look forward to, some day when I become a mom. Those breaks that I get to enjoy and not have a care in the world about my own school or work schedule.

Anyways, this weekend in Arizona was awesome. It rained practically all day Saturday and it was the best! I got to thinking about the whole thing and I thought about how rain is nice in bits, but when you have to live every day in a cloudy droll it would just get old and depressing.  I guess that's why I love Arizona so much.

This weekend Brand and I went down to volunteer at the humane society, just like the old times. (please forgive the over sized vein going down the middle of my forehead, this appeared a few weeks ago and I want it to do away.... gross!) It was so fun to be able to see the people and remember how much I love that campus, but it's so-far-away! Anyways it was a total blast and I loved every bit of it.

Also, what kind of weekend would it be if I didn't make cookies?  My mom got me this super awesome cookie scoop and it will forever change my cookie baking experience.  You mean I don't have to use my hands to roll them into a ball?! -Seriously! Plus it makes my cookies look like ice cream. Yum!

I also took a chance and crocheted a nursing necklace. A nursing necklace is a necklace that moms wear when they nurse to keep their baby from scratching at them, pulling their hair, and pulling at their mouth or what ever else.  It keeps them distracted. It also helps develop touch and fine motor skills. I love it. And because I don't have a baby, I thought it would be fun to make and sell in my etsy shop! If you have any color preferences or ideas let me know! Special orders accepted (:

Anyways, that's it for my weekend. One of those good wholesome weekends. And we've made it through Monday so I can now feel less annoyed about this week.

How was your weekend?! Link up and let me know!

spiritual sunday: judge not

It's so often that we can find ourselves in this particular situation.
Finding fault in others.
But it is important to remember that it is not our place to judge, it is not out place to gossip.
