here's a Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year too!

cardi: jcpenny, button-up: j.crew, jeans: f21, boots: famous footwear, bracelet: juicy couture

Merry Christmas because I wore this outfit on Christmas day, Happy New Year because I will probably wear the gingham shirt on New Years, is it obvious that this is my new favorite shirt?

So with today being the last day of the year I thought it would be a good idea to link to this year's most viewed posts.

What I Wore: my weekend, movies, brand and anne
Three different ways to wear a maxi
What I Wore: happy monday wavy hair!
Awkward and Awesome
Our Story: the engagement
Puppy Love
That's what friends are for

This whole year has been filled with so many things both good and bad.  I sit back and think of all the horrible things that I've been through this year, sometimes I'm dramatic when I say horrible because, looking back the year wasn't THAT bad - I've had worse. But, looking back I think of all the things I've done.  I started the new year off by going back to school, I've made so many new friends and am so happy to have you all as my readers, I've grown so much closer to Brand - and we've hurdled over lots of bumps in our road called trials.  I think without these experiences and trials it's hard for us to know the good. Like, when you are sick it's easy to remember how good it is to be healthy, but when you are healthy we sometimes take if for granted. I'm so thankful for every little thing that has crossed my path this year, I'm grateful for the tests that have made me stronger.

I have a feeling 2013 is going to be a good year because I've got some big plans! I'm so grateful for you all and I hope you bring in the new years right!

As Ellen would say "be kind to one another!!!"

my week in pictures

So, yesterday was my birthday.  I'm not one to announce these things publicly, in fact I changed my birth date on facebook so that no one would know!! Anyways, yesterday on my birthday Brand and I went to the Humane Society - it was so much fun!!

This week was also awesome because it was Christmas! In our families, for the past two years, we've especially loved Christmas because that means we get to talk to our brothers!! Enough talk, lets get on to the pictures!

there is no other place I'd rather spend part of my birthday!
I love these two faces!
This little guy's name is Rocket and he is up for adoption at the Arizona Humane Society! He is one sweet boy and really loves to cuddle!!
I love this Maggie girl, I can't believe she is going to be 10 in January!!
Me and my dad talking to my brother!
Made this hat the other day! What do you think?!
Brand and I had so much fun at our Christmas parties! These are the hats from the Christmas Crackers that we opened!!

I hope you all had an awesome week!

Glory to God in the highest

Luke 2:1-20
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

tutorial: a Christmas manger

Happy Sunday friends! I know it's spiritual Sunday, but this tutorial is pretty perfect for this time of year!  I got the idea from my mom, who got the idea from Pinterest! (What did we do without Pinterest?)
You will need:
Popsicle sticks
paint
paint brush
brown paper shreds
hot glue gun
star
You will need four Popsicle sticks in order to build the outside of the frames

Cut one of the sticks in half, then glue them together so they look like this:
This is the backside.
(I didn't count how many Popsicle sticks it would take to make Jesus, Mary and Joseph)
Next you will need to cut the Popsicle sticks and paint them. (Mary is in blue and Joseph is in burgundy)
You will also need to paint the star.
When you've finished painting everything hot glue the pieces to the nativity set, you will also hot glue the paper shreds as well.

The tutorial is pretty self explanatory, I figured it out just by looking at the picture

Let me know how yours turns out!

what I'm liking: Saturday

Christmas is on Tuesday and I'm sure many of you are last minute shopping, just like me. But now it's time to take a break and click on some links! This time I'm linking fun nail polish ideas.  I always love looking at everyone's nail polish ideas, and I feel like this time of year I always have nail polish on!

Most of these links are 'how to's'

I never would have thought of this idea, but if you like shiny nails -which ads a Christmasy touch- check these out.
Awesome ombre nails, it looks so easy!
This is a fun montage of nail ideas, but it doesn't give you a 'how to'
If I had these I wouldn't want to touch ANYTHING!
I REALLY love these!!
Cute Christmas idea.
If you like animal print.

Have a great weekend! Hope you get all your shopping done! Don't forget to take care of yourself too! (:

my week in pictures

This week went by fast, and I'm not even ready for Christmas! I guess I better get to it!

I'm sure you've all heard about instagram's new terms and conditions that are starting up in January, I'm not real sure if that will change the way I gram or not, I guess we will find out. Is it changing the way you gram? What are your reasons for or against? I guess I'm looking to hear everyone's input!

@lyssadawson
Dear scarf that I got last year, you are so cute! I love that it is cold outside because now I can wear you!

awkward and awesome

shirt: f21, shirt: target, jeans: f21, boots: famous footwear, earrings: ElisabethSpace

Awkward
- Slits in bathroom stall doors. Just Why?? Can't they figure out a way to have NO slits?!
- Yearly doctors appointments. Ladies, you know what I mean... it's just so awkward
- When someone likes your instagram picture and then unlikes it.  I mean, come on, just leave it as liked... It just makes it more awkward when you unlike it!!
- Acne overload on the last day of class.  I hate to think that my classmates will remember me as the girl with the acne.
- Making eye contact with someone at a restaurant and knowing they've been staring at you for who knows how long.
- When you think someone is waiving at you but they are really waving at someone behind you... This goes hand-in-hand when talking about smiling too.

Awesome
- School is out for the semester!
- This time of year.  There is something oh-so-magical about this time of year.  Maybe it's because there is so much happiness in the air.
-  It's finally getting cold in Arizona! FINALLY!
- Playing with leaves in the back yard!
- Getting my first Influenster voxbox.  So excited to share with you my reviews!

my Cosmo VoxBox Review

Forever Red Eau de Parfume, Ghiradelli Gormet Milk Sea Salt Escape, Venus, FriXion Pens

So a couple weeks ago I was selected to receive a VoxBox from Influenster. If you haven't heard of Influenster you should head to their website and sign up to be a member, you won't regret it.  They send you products and ask you to review them, it's as easy as that!

This Voxbox was called the Cosmo VoxBox and it had lots of goodies in it.  Lets take a look at the items in the box.

Forever Red de Parfume by Bath and Body Works
- $10 for .25 fl ox/7mL ($44.50 for Full Size)
- I love this body spray, it's very light and isn't overwhelming at all.  At first I was a little skeptical at the price of the item, because I thought it was way too small of a bottle for $10.  But the bottle lasts a long time! I've sprayed it a lot and it doesn't really seem to be making a dent, its great!! I recommend this product.

Ghiradelli Gourmet Milk Sea Salt Escape
- $2.79
- I have to admit, I was nervous to try this at first only because of the name of the chocolate.  I'm not a sea salt fan.  This did not taste like sea salt at all, it was actually really good! My favorite part about it was the mix of the milk chocolate and almonds, I love almonds!! I recommend this product.

Venus Razor
- $3.50-$4.50
- I've always loved Venus period.  So it's no surprise that I love this razor! About 4 years ago, when I got married, I stopped buying Venus Razors - I don't know why - and after using this razor I remembered why I love them so much.  Using disposable razors would take forever just to shave one leg, and I never wanted to shave because it took so long!  But because this razor has 5 blades shaving has become easier and faster! I love it! I totally recommend this product.

FriXion by Pilot Pen
- $4.50 for a 3-pack/$11 for 8-pack
- I love these pens! They write so smooth, last week I wrote Brand a love note and I seriously wanted to just keep writing and writing with it! I can't wait to use them when I go back to school.  They are also great because they have an eraser on them, perfect for error free tests and notes! I recommend this product.

These views are 100% mine, I was not paid to write these reviews a certain way.
I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

praying for Newtown

I found this poem Sunday morning and just had to share it with you.  In memory of those who lost their lives on Friday I will not be posting on my blog tomorrow, as a blogger day of silence.  To find out more about that head here

twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
they were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"where are we?" asked a little girl, quiet as a mouse.
"this is heaven." declared a small boy, "we're spending Christmas at God's house."
when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their Savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
and as if He could read all the questions she has
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"may this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"come now my children, let me show you around."
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
and I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"in the  midst of the darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

Spiritual Sunday: Wise men still seek Him

With so many horrible things going on in the world today it is important for us to become closer to our Heavenly Father.  We can become closer to our Heavenly Father by serving others and following Jesus' example.  It is important to seek the Lord daily and celebrate his life.

what I'm liking: Saturday

I'm switching what I'm liking Sunday to what I'm liking Saturday.  I have different Sunday plans. So, here are
some of my favorite links from this week, the main focus babies.  Not that I'm pregnant, but little things always seem to be the cutest things, (yes I do have very expensive tastes, no I wont be able to afford all these things when I have children. But it's nice to look!)

These shoes really get me, I mean how can you not like these little man shoes?!
Have you checked out Ruche's children's line? I couldn't decide which outfit I like more because they are all so cute!
So, all the popular bloggers that have babies are sporting this stroller, I have to admit - it's really pretty cool!!
Personalized pacifiers? What baby doesn't need that!?
And the classic sock monkey... always a favorite.
This is for an older child, but I've always loved entertainment books!
Love these 4-in-1 cribs, they are so nice!

What are your favorite things baby?

our story: the reception

our story: the reception decor
our story: the wedding day
our story: the engagement

Only half of my family is LDS, so the half that is not LDS was unable to be in the temple with us when we got married.  So, before our reception we decided it would be appropriate to do a "wedding ceremony" (I use quotes because it was not an actual wedding ceremony).  We asked our Bishop to explain to our family and friends the reason why we get married in the temple and why they were not able to attend, we also had him talk about the importance of eternal marriages  I don't remember much of the ceremony, but I do remember the part before the ceremony when Brando, yes still Brando, lost his wedding ring.  I kid you not, his wedding ring was lost for a good five minutes right before the ceremony, definitely one of the highlights of the reception! After the ceremony our visitors showed up and we started the reception line.

I hugged so many people that night and some of them were people I didn't even know.  But it was a great night, I saw so many faces from my childhood and so many faces from my new life it was really great.  There were so many moments from the reception that we missed because we were in line greeting everyone, but thankfully Brando's friend recorded some of the reception for us. Although it was weird for him to record, just because it's weird randomly recording someones reception, it all turned out great!

After we greeted everyone in the reception line we cut our beautiful cake and then our photographer made us dance.  I say made because that is literally what she made us do.  We didn't have a dance planned, to be honest we both thought the dance would be kind of lame, but we did it anyways - for photography's sake. The reception was great and it was so nice to have family and friends celebrate our important day with us!

another semester gone

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic. I just finished my first in-class class at ASU. It seems like yesterday when I was typing away at the computer lab writing up this post after the first class. After reading back over the post I remember how nervous I was on the first day.  I was nervous that no one was going to like me and that everyone was going to make fun of me, all because of previous school situations dating from Kindergarten - 10th grade. Now that the semester is over I realize how silly it was to feel that way about it, but I think no matter what I will always get those kinds of nerves. These past few months flew by, my teacher was great and was so relatable.... in fact, she reminded me of a blogger! All the girls in my class were so nice and there were no arguments, it was one of those perfect class type things. All I've got to say is that I hope my other teachers and classes are as good as this one... but maybe I shouldn't hold ASU classes up to such a high standard because I might upset my self... So, another semester over and another soon to begin, this time I have two in-class classes... look at me I'm getting brave! I'm sure when the second week of January hits you'll hear more rants about school starting, till then this is the last school post of the year! Hip-Hip-HOORAY!!

what I wore: at the gazebo

shirt/cardi: AE, jeans:f21, boots: famous footwear, earrings: ElisabethSpace

This outfit picture was very impromptu. It was the weekend Brand and I were in Prescott for our anniversary  trip.  It was our last full day there so we were taking full advantage of the beautiful weather.  We found this cute little gazebo by our hotel, it was set perfectly on the hill and we had a great view of the mountains.  The colors everywhere were so beautiful and it seemed like a picture perfect place! So, we ended up snapping a few pictures and of course I had to get some outfit pictures in there too!

The gazebo was a perfect place for a wedding. There was a long pathway that lead up to the gazebo steps and I could picture white chairs lined up next to it. I imagined a beautiful bride dressed in white with a few leaves following along on her train, it would be nearly impossible for the leaves not to attach to her dress because they were everywhere.  I imagined a nervous groom standing at the steps of the gazebo watching his bride walk down the pathway, maybe getting a little teary-eyed.  I then thought back to the day I got married, it seemed like so long ago, but remembering the day made me so happy and so grateful for Brand and for everything that he has done for me.

I love gazebos!!

p.s,- It's already Monday again! Can you believe 15 more days and then it's Christmas? What are you looking forward to most? I'm looking forward to talking to my brother! He is serving a church mission in the Dominican Republic and has been out for 18 months!
