pumpkin creativity

Heavens knows that I am hardly the creative type, especially when it comes to pumpkin carving.  My pumpkin usually looks like someone tried to repair it after a cat attacked it! Not-Even-Kidding.  So, I thought it would be great to take a look at these creative people who can carve pumpkins.

^this one has to be my favorite!
Happy Halloween!

must love dogs

I bet you can't guess what Brand and I did this weekend! Well, in case you really can't we volunteered at the Arizona Humane Society! It was our first time being with the dogs and it was seriously so much fun. I've been worried about the whole thing because I love animals so much and it just makes me so sad to see them not have homes, but this has definitely been an eye opener for me.  The Arizona Humane Society is so great because they do all that they can to make sure these animals are safe and happy.  There was one specific moment where I definitely cried, out of happiness, because I saw a sweet lady fall in love with one of the dogs and say that she wanted to take him home. You guys this place is so great and I'm so excited to spend more time with these sweet animals!

- Walking to my car after school and these girls from class are walking behind me.
Girl one to me: Hey! Are you in our next class?
Girl one to girl two: I don't know what her name is do you?
Girl two to girl one: No.
I turn around and answer...
- My brain needs to start working because I know I have more awkward moments...

- Dinner conversations between Brand and I here is one of my favorites:
Me: Dang, my back hurts!
Brand: Welcome to old (:

anniversary traditions

Brand and I are coming up on our 4 year anniversary! I can't believe how fast the time goes by, it feels like yesterday we were taking pre-wedding pictures, and getting butterflies about our wedding day! Here are some traditions that Brand and I have on our anniversary:

1. Look at your wedding pictures - There is no better way to remember your special day than by flipping through your wedding album. There will be so many things that you will remember about the day, it will bring up so many conversations about what happened, how you felt, and what you remember.

2. Come up with a traditional weekend get away - Every time our anniversary comes around Brand and I go up to Prescott for the weekend and enjoy the cold weather and turning of the leaves.  We like to do one new thing each time, last year Brand and I picked a spot where we would want to build a house!  It was high up on the mountain and oh so gorgeous! We also like to go back to the places we've been and see if they have changed.  Oh, and we take lots of pictures to document our time!

3. Eat an anniversary only meal/dessert - When Brand and I head up to Prescott we always stop at the Amish restaurant in Black Canyon where we eat a yummy breakfast. And I always get Chocolate Chocolate chip pancakes at iHop! There is nothing better than having a specific meal or place to remind you of the fun traditions you have on your anniversary.

4. Talk about your future goals - Isn't it fun to look back on the past year you spent together and think about what you want to do in the next year? Ask each other questions about future goals, where you see your family the next time your anniversary rolls around, any personal goals that you want to achieve.

5. Buy something small/Find something in nature to take home - Let's face it, weekend getaways can be expensive so it can be easy to not want to spend money on trinkets. Every year Brand and I take a leaf home with us. (the leaf has already fallen from the tree of course!  It's kind of random and may seem silly to you, but we put it up on our book shelf so we can remember, throughout the year, the fun time we had on our anniversary.. It's a simple reminder of the memories and love that we have for each other.

Do you have any anniversary traditions?
Are there any new ones that you want to start?

a weekend to remember

cardigan: tjmaxx, shirt: ann taylor, jeans: kohls, shoes: famous footwear, watch: fossil

First I want to say that I haven't been to the dentist in 4 years, went today and found out that I have no cavities! It that a miracle?!

Also, Brand and I haven't used our AC in over a week now, I can't wait to see that electric bill!

Last week was a really busy week for me, lots of school work, work, and etsy shop kinds-of-stuff going on.  So forgive me, I've been a little scatter brained!  For us this weekend was great! Brand was on the radio Saturday night for about an hour, Saturday night radio- yeah yeah I know.  But it was really cool! My favorite part of the whole thing was watching him talk (I had to watch through the glass) and hearing how he sounded on the radio! Oh, and the 8-10 second delay really caught me off guard sometimes.  It was a really cool experience and we will never forget it!

Book Club {Bossypants}

Okay, I have to be honest, I didn't really read the whole book and my excuse is school and because I didn't really like it. But I did read a little bit of and will definitely tell you how I felt about it! You can also read another review of the book from Ashley! (she actually did read the whole book!)

Don't forget, Ashley also has a recipe to go with this book!!!

I can't really answer all these questions, actually I can only answer one of these questions.

1. How many stars would you give the book 1-5 (5 being amazing)

2. What did you like about the book/Your favorite part?

3. What didn't you like about the book/What could the author have done without?
- There were too many cuss words for me. I'm not a prude, but I just don't find it tasteful when I read these words in books. Also, it didn't catch my attention, maybe it's because I was taken back by the language.
4. Would you recommend the book to a friend?

Did you like the book? Have you read it before?! Checkout Ashley's review to see how she felt about it! Again, these are simply my views and I don't expect anyone else to feel the same way I do. (:

What book should we read next?!
On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves
The Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weine
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter
Little Century by Ana Keesey
Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson
Glimpse by Sara Daniel

Don't forget to link up your review of the book! Oh, and let us know which book you would like to read next!!

a fantastically crisp weekend

flannel: mom, jeans: f21, shoes: famous footwear, watch: fossil, necklace: tiffany's

This weekend was fantastic. The weather was great and I got a whole lot done, or at least it feels like I did. Good ole Arizona had a high of 79 degrees on Friday and 88 degrees on Saturday. This means that I had my windows open all weekend and didn't turn on the AC once! Take that global warming! This also means that I got to bust out the new flannel shirt that my mom gave me! I'm so excited for cooler weather so I can dress all warm a cozy. I also feel like my winter clothes are cuter than my summer ones... or maybe it's just the whole layering thing that I really love. Last week was great because it was our fall break which officially means that we are half way done with this semester. But that also means I only have 15 more days to finish a 14 page paper-I think I should start working on that. And this also means that I have 8 more months till I get to see my brother! EIGHT!

How is the weather in your neighborhood?

Don't forget to check out the giveaway!

awkward and awesome

- Sitting outside waiting to pick up the kids form school, I have my car locked and the key in the ignition-but the car is turned off-I go to take the key out of the ignition and the car starts beeping at me, like the loud alarm "you are stealing this car and I'm telling everyone" kind. So I freak out, turn off the alarm, and can sense all eyes staring at me like I don't belong to their cool club. I sink down in my chair.
- The above white shoes and outfit, so I was trying to be very Sydney today and it just didn't work out, I think I'm going to have to go stalk her blog for more idea!
- Sitting in the computer lab and every time I sit in the same spot, it never fails. Except for this one time where this girl just plops her self down and takes my seat, now I know we don't have assigned seating but come on!  I gave her a small stink eye and felt awkward sitting in not my normal seat.
- Also, I wanted to do my hair up today, but my face decided to grow an extra large protuberance on it, this is also know as a zit. Lets get real though, we all have them I just like to sometimes use my side bangs as a blanket to cover them up!

- No class for a week? Awesome!
- Painting my nails and not getting outside the lines!! I finally did it! Someone give me an award!
- Babysitting and being told that the little guy asked for me the next day. Seriously, any kid that does this is on my "favorite little" list!
- Seeing Brand's face when he cam home to a picnic in the living room! I love his smile!
- Spending an hour going through Sydney's blog, I really feel like a stalker but she is so cute and I just want to know how she does what she does!

Happy Thursday/Friday Eve!!!

4 tips to have an unforgettable halloween

Remember how fun Halloween was when you were little? The question in my house was always "what time do we get to go trick-or-treating?!"  Halloween is such a fun time when you are a kid, you get to dress up and you get candy! What more does a kid need!? There was one Halloween that I remember quite well. I was in preschool and we were having a Halloween party, I dressed up as Snow White, wig and all - this includes lipstick and red shoes too!  So we were lining up to go into the classroom and the older kids start laughing and pointing at me. They said "ha ha, she has a wig on. Ewww that's weird!"   I started crying and yanked the wig off my head - and from then on I swore to myself that I would never wear a wig again for Halloween.

This year I want to make Halloween the best, I want to remember this Halloween instead of my preschool year disaster! Brand (my husband) and I don't really do anything for Halloween because we don't have kids, but this year I want to change that! Here are 4 tips to have an unforgettable Halloween:

1. Start a tradition - Halloween is always more fun when there is tradition to look forward to.  A lot of families have pumpkin carving as their tradition. Some families I know even bake the pumpkin seeds after they carve the pumpkins! The tradition doesn't have to be extravagant, in fact here are some traditions that you might want to try out for your own house. If you are single and don't have family in town find friends to make traditions with, get together with people from church or classmates, you will be surprised at how much fun you can have!
2. Throw a Party - I've never been to a Halloween party before, -I take that back I have - but I've always thought it would be lots of fun to have my own party! Especially seeing all the creative costumes! The party doesn't have to be on Halloween night, in fact it might be better if it isn't so that more guests show up! Surf the web and get cool ideas on decorations and games to play at your party. I love going to the dollar stores around the holidays because they always have great decorations. If you are looking for decorations ideas take a look at this website. If you are looking for games to play head here. Throwing a Halloween party will definitely get you into the Halloween spirit.
3. Find a "Halloween Only" Recipe - Come up with a recipe for Halloween, make it specific so that it has it's own Halloween feel and so that it always reminds you, your spouse, or your kids about all the fun you had on Halloween! You could make a special Halloween dinner or just make a dessert, you pick! If you are looking for fun recipes to try head over here.
4. Get Creative with your Costumes - Halloween costumes don't have to cost a fortune. There are so many creative ways to make costumes that are cost effective. Personally, I love seeing families dress up as characters from movies like Toy Story or The Incredibles. If you are looking for other group ideas you can check out this website. If you are looking for cheap costume ideas head here.

With these tips in mind you are sure to have an awesome, memorable Halloween!

Don't forget about the book club link up next week!!! Do you remember what we are reading? Find out here.
