a little more workout a little less junk in the trunk

Hello! It's THURSDAY! I absolutely love weeks that start with a day off! Can you have anything better?! Well, I guess I could think of lots of better things but lets stay positive here! I know it's positive Thursday but I'm not feeling inspiration for a specific subject I do however want to tell you my new fun workout playlist!
I've started running! When I was younger all I ever did was play sports so back in middle school and high school I was in shape but you can imagine what five years will do to your body when you don't work out every day.  Okay, now stop imagining it! (: I'm starting slow but, I'm building my way up! I'm pretty excited to reach my goals!

So, here is my workout playlist, please note that all of these songs are the clean version (: ... also, these songs are in no particular order...

1. Fly -Hilary Duff
2. Call Me Maybe -Carly Rae Jepsen
3. Love You Like a Love Song -Selena Gomez
4. Part of Me -Katy Perry
5. Drive By -Train
6. What Makes You Beautiful -One Direction
7. The Edge of Glory -Lady Gaga
8. Eyes Open -Taylor Swift
9. Wide Awake -Katy Perry
10. Hung Up -Madona
11. Remember The Name -Fort Minor
12. Show Stopper -Danity Kane
13. It's Not Over -Daughtry
14. SOS -Rihanna

What's on your playlist?!

Last night I ran, for the first time, out of the gym.... like instead of using the elliptical I just ran on the road and let me tell you, I am so out of shape and I realized that just because you can run for a long time in the gym doesn't mean  you can run for a long time on the road! SERIOUSLY! (: I felt like Katniss when she got stung by the tracker jackers... I was starting to hallucinate.

I feel a little embarrassed putting this picture up, but I'm a real person and this is what I looked like after my run... yes, my face is red and I was in the middle of blinking! haha! Back at it again tonight! Wish me Luck!!

fun with foods: oatmeal cookies... I use to think they were healthy!!

So I'm going to tell you the truth, when Brand is home I do not blog! This was the first weekend in a very long time that we were both home and didn't have plans so we made the very most of our weekend and that is why I have not posted anything spectacular.

I love oatmeal cookies and I wanted to share with you some yummy oatmeal cookies that I made.
(Is it bad that they were devoured in about two days?!)

I just used the recipe under the lid of our Quaker Oats container!

1/2 pound margarine or butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teasponn vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
3 cups Quaker Oats
Chocolate Chips (I just put a few chocolate chips on the tops of my cookies)

positive thursday someone has it worse than me

Do you ever think about people?
This seems like an obviously silly question. But, seriously..
Do you ever think about people?
Like what their story is?
Who they are, what there life goals are,
how they got to be who they are today?
I've thought about these things a lot lately.
It's really amazing to think about how many people there are in the world and how many we come in contact with.
And think about all these people, think about their lives and the things they have done to get to right where they are.

I guess this just get me thinking back to my purpose post and remembering that we all have a purpose.
It also gets me thinking about how we all have trials and tests.
Some people have it so much harder than others.
While some people have a great life with minor issues.
It's hard to believe that we aren't the only ones going through trials that have stumbled in our path.
I read a quote a while back that said:
There is always someone who has it worse off than you.
Sometimes it's hard to believe.
There are so many things in life that get us down, make us sad and make us feel like we are the only ones in the world that are suffering. But remember, there is always someone who has it worse off than you, be thankful.

What I Wore: meeting a new friend at church

tank: jones new york, cardi: TjMaxx, belt: thrifted, jeans: f21, sunnies: ae, flips: reef

Usually I post about what I wore on Monday and Wednesday is my Friends Day Wednesday.
This is a mixture of both!
So Sunday at church I meet this lovely lady... let me tell you the story.
Brand and I were standing in the hall when a lady comes up to us and says..
"If your baby has red hair can I have it?"
My automatic response is,
"Nope, sorry that would be my baby."
(in a silly, not rude way of course.)
We laugh and talk about how she is a nurse at a NICU in town.
She talks about how redheaded babies are treated like gold in nurseries,
and how all the nurses call dibs on them.
(definitely a good feeling, now we know that when we have a baby it will be treated like a prince, or princess, in the hospital!)
She continued to talk about how redheaded babies are just the cutest thing on the earth and how she loves taking care of them.
We talked for a bit longer and when she left I just couldn't get the smile off my face.
She made my day, what a sweet lady giving such sweet compliments.
Isn't it amazing how the little things just touch our lives and make us happy?!

have you ever wondered...

Please excuse me for not posting yesterday. This weekend was a little busy! I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed being with family and friends. I wanted to tell you about a few things I've been thinking about quite a bit lately.

It all started on Thursday, while Brand and I were at In-n-Out. We sat next to a couple, a man and a woman,  who had a cute little toddler, I'd say he was 2. While we were waiting for our order I couldn't help but notice tears falling from this woman's face. I automatically felt the urge to go over and hug her. (Now, if you don't know me let me fill you in on this-I'm not a hugger...) Her boyfriend/husband, left the table and it was just her and her son, the urge to hug her came on even stronger as she kept crying. Brand got up to wait for our order and I sat there just a table across. Her son started kicking off and I tried getting his attention, sure enough when I smiled at him he smiled back and we started this back-and-forth thing. The woman stopped crying and we all started laughing, that little boy was a cutie! After Brand and I were finished with our dinner we went on our way.

I kept thinking about that woman, why she was crying, what obstacles in life she has gone through to get to where she is now, and how tough she might have/had it. I'd like to think that because I smiled her day was just a tad bit better. I'd like to think that she knows her true purpose on this earth and that she knows she is special.

All I know is that smiles are contagious!

positive thursday

This week I have tried REALLY hard to stay positive and smile. And of course I've noticed that it makes a huge difference in my day. The best part might be getting that smile back from the person you smiled out! You should try it!!

Obviously there are times in life when we literally cannot smile, we just can't seem to get the muscles in our face to produce something happy. I know... we have all had those days and they are the pits! The days when we know Satan has a great hold on our hearts, when he knows just what will get us boiling upset. I know that if we are constantly thinking about positive things, believing in our selves, and turning our hearts toward the right, we will be happy. We will be able to accomplish the goals we have for ourselves. The quote below is great and I wish everyone would just believe it:

I challenge you to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! And to know that there is something inside of you that is 'greater than any obstacle". I know you  can do it and so do you!

I also wanted to share this awesome music video. Have you ever listened to the words to 'Firework'? I love it!!

a tasty snack for a healthy.... back?? : popsicle recipe

Obviously I tried to rhyme this post title not sure it actually makes sense because this isn't just for a healthy back it's for a healthy body but your back holds up your body so maybe this makes sense! (notice I didn't put any punctuation in this because I was rambling) hehe! So lately I've noticed LOTS of people have been eating healthy! This is great! I'll have to admit about a month ago Brand and I decided we wanted to eat healthy too! I wanted to share this really great recipe with you that is so simple and tastes so good!

In Arizona it is getting pretty hot, if you follow me on instagram (@lyssadawson) you will see that I posted a picture of our 5 day forecast and it was not a very pretty sight, 106 by the end of the week. So we like popsicles!

What you need:
Any fruit of your choice, I have
apples,
and strawberries.
Lemonade (we use the Great Value Lemonade mix, with minimal amounts of sugar!)
Popsicle holders... (what do you call those things?!) haha!

What you do:
Put slices of your fruit in the popsicle holders, and then poor the lemonade in.
Once you are done put it in your freezer and they will be ready the next day!
It's pretty simple!

I get lots of my recipes from the Undressed Skelton, she is great! (And I'll be back with more next week!)

What I Wore: business as usual

Top: TJMaxx.  Cardi: Target, Slacks: JCPenny, Shoes: Ross, Bracelet: Juicy

Have you ever gone to the grocery store in your work clothes? Have you ever noticed that people treat you differently depending on what clothes you are wearing? I had to make a quick stop at the grocery store to pick up a few things right after work. I wasn't too dressy, you know just the work casual slacks, a nice shirt and boots (not this specific outfit). But I couldn't help but notice the the glances and smiles I got. Brand said that when he was younger, like just out of high school, he and his buddies dressed up in scrubs to see how people would treat them. Needless to say he too got smiles and was treated differently. Why is that?  It definitely made me want to wear my work clothes to the store all the time! (:

much needed positivity

Do you have days where you just feel like you are worthless, that you have wasted your life away, that you should have chosen to be someone else? That you are a waste of time and effort and that you are just plain stupid?

Well, I'm here to tell you that you are none of those things! And that you are the exact opposite!
Your life is a gift that you were given and you choose to do with it what you may. The choices we make in life determine who we are and who we can become. I choose to be positive and to turn away from the the evil choices of the world. I choose to hold my head high and remember who I really am.

There are so many things in life that get us down and make us feel bad about our selves (being involved with social websites doesn't help haha). If anything we feel that 'the grass is greener on the other side' and that we want that grass to be on our side, with all its lushness and softness! (: The truth is, no-one wants to share there faults, how fun would that be if we knew they weren't perfect? ...

But because I know that my life has a purpose and that I have purpose I know that I cannot compare myself to people around me. As long as I know that I truly am on the right path, that I am following Heavenly Father, I know that I will get where I need to be. I know we all can be helping hands and that we all have a purpose here! We just need to remember that we do!!

You were sent here for this time and for this hour.

Friends Day Wednesday: Ellen & Book Club

Ellen and I are officially friends! Why? Well, it's all because I bought her clever book Seriously... I'm Kidding. Last week I checked out the price on Amazon and I couldn't pass it up! The above picture is me after I opened it. I was so excited!

Now if you don't know Ellen you should get to know her. She is a hoot and is constantly cracking jokes! I don't have tv but I enjoy watching her show online, I cannot tell you how many times I've cracked up because of the funny things she says. Maybe some day I'll get to go to the Ellen show and say "Ellen, dance!" Anyways, this book is seriously great! Ellen is such a positive person, she has a kind heart and a huge funny bone! I especially like this book so far because she is so honest and upfront! It's great!

If you have been a follower of mine for a while now you will remember when I had a book club. Let's be honest I have never been a reader and until last year I had never actually finished a book in my life, except the scriptures of course. But, I found out that reading truly is fun when you are reading something interesting! haha! So I'm starting my book club back up! yay! Send me an email or comment with a list of books that you would like to read or have read and we will get our book list going! This first book I'm starting off with is of course Seriously... I'm Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres. So, if you want to be a part of the book club grab your copy of Seriously... I'm Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres and read along! At the end of the month I will have a book review and maybe a linky party with everyone else's review! So, what are you waiting for?!

What I Wore: smells that remind

Shirt: DEB (similar), Bracelets: Nordsrom Shoes: TOMS, Jeans: Macy's

Hello Friends! I'm here! I've been a little bit busy lately! I'm sure that happens to you too!
I wanted to ask you this, maybe I've asked it before and this might sound weird but, do you have a certain smell that reminds you of something. Like for me the Bath and Body Works "Cinnamon Pumpkin" smell reminds me of Paris and the "Be Enchanted" smell reminds me of my old job. Is that weird? I think I kind of like it! I like remembering the good times! Maybe you have a smell that reminds you of something? I know I'm not crazy (:

how do you style your hair?

Hello friends! Welcome to Thursday! I feel like ever since I finished school this semester my days have gone by so fast! It's weird!
Anywhoo, I wanted to get some of your ideas for hair styles because lets face it, I'm not so good at these cute styles that are all over pinterest! Also, I don't look good in many of them, maybe it's because they are new styles but I don't know. Like many of you I have my own board for Pretty Hair Styles, filled with pictures of beautiful ways to do my hair. I can never seem to do any of these though! Are there any success stories you've had? Any new ones you've tried?!  I'd love to hear about them!

p.s. - isn't my hair getting long?!

Friends Day Wednesday {This Enchanted Pixie}

Welcome to Wednesday! Today I have an awesome friend from the UK here to share her self with you! She is truly great and I'm so glad that I met her! Please take a minute and read her words of wisdom, she has such a great out look!

Hi! I'm Polly and I live in North Wales, UK, amongst the hills and valleys with my love and our three daughters. I'm a stay at home mama and we are also a home schooling family. I started blogging at This Enchanted Pixie just over two years ago to record the little moments of our lives, I discovered my great love for blogging and it has all grown from there. I also have a shop, where I sell my handmade, bohemian jewellery, which is inspired by my love of nature. while today i'm living the life that i always dreamt of, up until a few years ago I was still trying to please others and do 'what i should' not what i wanted. i suffered from bout after bout of depression, until i finally realized the mistake that i was making.
i'd spent my life trying to fit in, to be what i thought i should be, and often something different for each perosn i knew. that was a surefire recipe for disaster.
we only have one life, one chance to live our dreams and make ourselves happy. when a good friend told me to stop and think, hard, about what I wanted from this life, and to follow my dreams no matter how impossible they seem. i took her advice and realised what it was that made me happy - i started blogging, started putting myself out there, i set up an etsy shop, and {tried} to stop worrying what others thought about me.
after a few months, i no longer had to try -  following my heart and being proud to be myself started to come naturally. today my life is a far cry from what it once was. i'll admit there are the odd times i doubt myself, but i can look back on all i have achieved in the past couple of years and just how far i have come.
three steps to get you started: one sit down and write down all the things you'd like to do, how you'd like your life to be and how you want to spend your days two make an action plan of how you're going to get from where you are now to where you want to be {remember - babysteps} three believe in yourself - this is the most important - you have to truly believe that you can do it, otherwise anything you attempt will only be half-hearted and don't forget:
source
BLOG - SHOP - FACEBOOK -

I'm really grateful for these words of inspiration! You really do have to believe in your self in order to become who you truly can be! Thanks so much Polly for sharing your inspiration. I hope it has filled your morning and has given you a positive out look to your day!

If you want to be spotlighted on Friends Day Wednesday send me an email:

What I Wore: the silliest things

Tank, Bracelet: Kohls, Skinnies: F21, Belt: Thrifted, Cardi: Ross, Sandals: DSW

Sometimes I feel like the silliest things happen to me! Take this weekend for example:
Friday night dinner date with my Brand. The Hostess says to us, "well, we could sit you both at a high-top table because we have one open. Oh, and it's happy hour and that includes drinks, that is, if you are old enough."  Brand and I look at each other with a little smirk, I'm sure one day we will appreciate these random things, and I guess for now it's just dang funny!

Rock-climbing, belaying Brand, he's on his way down but, my hair gets caught in the pully!! Not even kidding! I had to tell him to climb back up so I could get my hair out! Thankfully the WHOLE gym wasn't there looking but, those who were made little comments like "wow, that's got to hurt" and "they don't teach that in the beginning do they?!" I bet I was the highlight of their night!

An I feel like there are more but, my brain just doesn't want to work! It's ready for this summer break! (:
