our story: the reception decor

To read our story: the wedding day
To read our story: the engagement

This may be a little bias, but my reception was beautiful (I'm really not trying to sound conceited). I really have to hand it to my mom for the whole set up of the reception! She did such a great job! She made all the flower pieces, organized every center piece, got all the pictures ready, made up all the take home treats and so much more! Everything was in it's perfect place and it really looked just amazing.

I remember the first time I walked in to see all the work that had been done and I was so amazed.  I never knew the church basketball court could be transformed into something so beautiful!  It was more then I could ever ask for. As we walked in there was music playing, our engagement pictures were displayed in the hall telling everyone which way to go.  Before you entered into the reception there was a sign-in station with more pictures and the take home treats that my mom had made. As we walked into the reception we saw a gazebo, trimmed with beautiful greenery and lights. Throughout the court we noticed the hard metal chairs were transformed into beautiful white wedding chairs, with a lovely little bow tied at the back part of the chair.  The table pieces had beautiful flower pieces, candles and coasters with our picture on them.  In the middle of the reception was a large bar area filled with food and drinks. Toward the west wall of the reception was the cake, oh that beautiful three layer cake with the cutest designs and most beautiful flowers on each tier. I loved every bit of that cake! A lot of the reception was lined with white drapery and beautiful white columns trimmed with greenery and lights. It was such a beautiful sight!

All of our wedding photos were taken by the lovely Cindy Price @ Lily P Studio. Cindy did a great job and was a wonderful photographer (it was also fun because she kind of looks like Hilary Swank, and I like her). I'm grateful to Cindy for taking pictures of the reception, if it weren't for these pictures I would hardly remember how beautiful everything turned out.

fun foods: a juicing recipe

A few weeks ago Brand and I some how managed to watch the documentary "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" on hulu.  The documentary got us interested, I mean we've always wanted to eat healthy, and we are constantly going through phases of working out and not working out.  But, we thought it would also be a good idea to try this whole juicing thing.  Because I'm a picky eater I was reluctant to try juicing, especially after seeing all the vegetables that are put in the juices. But, I wanted to try it and see how it worked, if anything it would put some kind of healthy food in my diet.

I have to say, so far so good. I'm really enjoying this juicing thing. I'm not doing a juice fast or anything, just drinking a juice once a day to give me all the healthy vitamins that I need. I thought I'd share with you one of my favorite juices. (this juice makes enough for two people)

2 Oranges - no rhind
2 Carrots - Make sure you take the durt off
1 Lime - keep rhind
2 Tomatoes
2 Gala Apples
2 Pears
A hand full of Kale (stalks cut off)
A hand full of spinach

Let me know what you think!
Do you have any good juice recipes?!

the rustling of the deciduous trees

shirt: boutique, cardi: tjmaxx, jeans: f21, boots: famous footware, purse: coach

When we were in Prescott this weekend I re-fell-in-love with the sound of rustling trees.  In Glendale we don't have these beautiful trees so I only hear the sound about once a year, when we head to Prescott.  This time we took an impromptu walk through the back ally way, after having a delightful lunch at El Gato Azul, when we heard the rustling of the beautiful tall trees.  It was like something from the movies. The cool weather and the beautiful tall trees were quite wonderful and we caught ourselves walking through the ally just for the fun of it for quite a while.  There is nothing like enjoying time with your husband as you walk through a small forest; hearing the crunch of the leaves beneath your feet and rustling of trees in the sky.  This weekend was most definitely an unforgettable one.

our story: the wedding day

To read our story: the engagement
It was Friday, November 21, 2008 4:30 a.m.
My alarm went off early because I had to get ready for the big day. I got up off the blow-up mattress, because all my furniture was at my new apartment, threw some clothes on and head out the door. I was headed to get my hair and make-up done. I don't remember much about that morning, while I was getting my hair and makeup done, but I do remember I was running late.

I call Brando to see if he was ready, at this point his name is still Brando, he picked me up and we headed off to get married.  The whole time I'm thinking, this isn't real, this isn't real, it must be a dream!  As we were on our way to the Mesa Temple we were listening to a country station (107.9 to be exact) and Brando decided to call in and request a song.  Love Story by Taylor Swift was a very popular song in '08 and it seemed right for the moment. The radio show host started talking to Brando to see what he was up to, Brando told him that he was on his way to get married and that I really liked the new Taylor Swift song and wanted to see if he could play it. So, they played the song, dedicated it to us and congratulated us on the radio. It was pretty cool.

The drive from Glendale to Mesa is about an hour drive, this means there is plenty of room to get lost or think you are going in the right direction, when you really are not. Brando thought it would be a good idea to take a different route to the temple. I, on-the-other-hand was quite content in taking the route we had been on before, but I didn't mind. So we are driving along and I look at the time and think, oh boy we are going to be late to our own wedding!!!  I ask Brando how much longer he thinks it will be till we get to the temple.  He said wasn't sure because he thought we were going the right way. Anyways, we got lost but end up making it to the temple on time... well we made it when the guests were arriving... 30 minutes after we were supposed to be there. But that's okay, I still married him! (:

After we were sealed in the temple we took family pictures, had a luncheon and then a wedding reception.

if you were to visit me this morning

If you came to my apartment this morning as soon as you walked through the front door you would see my crochet projects all over the house.
You would see
the pillow that I'm working on (seen in the picture above)
bow ear warmers that need to be mailed
an infinity scarf in the making
and turban ear warmers that are being finished up.

I would tell you that you could have a seat on the couch and offer you a glass of water.

As you sit down you would notice that I'm watching Teen Mom 2.
I would tell you that I'm secretly in love with the show
and that it makes me feel like a normal person.

I would then ask you how your weekend was, if you enjoyed the weather.
And when speaking of the weather we would both be annoyed that it's supposed to be 84 degrees on Thanksgiving Day.

Then we would talk about our Thanksgiving traditions
and if you have anything big planned for Black Friday.
We would talk about all the crazy people who wait in line days before the stores open.
I would confess that I've gone to Black Friday every year,
but that I only do it because I love watching the people
although sometimes there are GREAT deals.
I would tell you that the earliest I've stood in line was last year at Target
when I waited 4 hours. So, it wasn't bad.

Some how blogging would be our next topic of discussion.
(my mind can be random at times)
We would talk about bloggers that we love and
bloggers that we want to become.
We would talk about our blogs and why we started blogging.

We would go on talking about life and the things that make us mad.
Things that make us happy.

We would end our conversation as new best friends.
I would tell you thank you for coming, tell you to have a great week and
insist that you come back soon.

Come back soon!

our story: the engagement

It was August of 2008 and Brand and I had been dating for almost a year.  (At this point in time his nick-name was Brando, so lets call him that.)  We knew we were going to get married, and we kind of even picked the date.  Brando liked to go hiking at night because you could see the city lights from way up-top and it was almost like you could see further out too.  So on our second mountain climb excursion was when it all took place.

Now, let me say something first, there were many instances that Brando "proposed" to me as a joke because people would say "When are you guys getting married?" or "Where's the ring?". These questions would entice him say "Well, actually..." as he was getting down on one knee to fake propose to me. It's safe to say that he "proposed" to me a lot, and if he was proposing for reals I would never be able to tell.. especially at night.

So, we are hiking up the mountain and we are hiking for what seems like forever, my hands are freezing and starting to get numb from the wind chill and I say:
"Okay, are we there yet?  Last time felt like it was so much faster to get to the top!"
Brando: Well, we are almost there.

So we finally get to the top of the mountain and sit down on the rocks and look at the beautiful city lights.  Brando decides that we need to find a good flat rock for us to sit on. We find a good rock and take a seat, we get to talking for a while and out of the blue he says "Lyssa, will you marry me?"  Me, thinking this was just another one of his pranks says "Shut-up, you don't even have a ring!!"  I turn to look at him and low-and-behold there is a ring in his cold nervous hands.  And of course, I said yes.

Apparently the whole hike up the mountain he was so nervous to propose and nervous that he was going to loose the ring on the hike.  I am definitely so grateful this man, for his courage, strength and hard work.

Arizona State Fair

I'm the one in the green arm with the crazy hair!

A few weekends ago Brand and I went to the Arizona State Fair.  We made a point to go when admission was 2$ and parking was free because we like a good deal.  I mean, why is the fair such an expensive place?!
I think my favorite part of the fair is  people watching, I could do it for hours simply because people are so weird. There were definitely many "what were/are they thinking" moments and "holy cow that 10 year old said what word??" The world is such a shocking place!
This time at the fair I had my first funnel cake! It was seriously so yummy, but it definitely gave me a stomach ache! Ugh! I also had a corn dog, I'm a sucker for those, and Brand had a turkey leg-it's tradition! que Reb Tevye!
My favorite ride has to be the crazy one that looks like an alien, it flips you upside down and all kinds of crazy stuff. I just love it! Oh, I'm also a sucker for crazy rides (:  Did I feel unsafe at some point while riding this ride? Of course!

Does your state have a fair?
What is your favorite carnival ride?

Happy Veteran's Day! Thank you Veterans for all you have done and do for our country!

what I'm liking: monday, because sunday came and went

Isn't it just fun to browse through these treasuries?
These crochet sandals make me go awwwwhhh,
These words are so true!
More people should do this so I can pet their dogs!
This is such a pretty stitch, what do you think?
Is it weird that I like this shirt?

post election thoughts

November 6, 2012
There are many feelings and thoughts running though my head right now, but these feelings and thoughts are not negative they are of peace and gratitude.  I feel peace to know that Heavenly Father is watching over us and is guiding our nation at His will.  I feel gratitude to know that our nation is a free nation, that our founding fathers were inspired to create such an amazing land for us to enjoy. I am grateful to know that His church will continue to run throughout nations, people will be taught, baptized, and sealed to their families for eternity.  I am grateful for the words of Prophets who have spoken of our time and the challenges we may have.  I am grateful to know that when we keep our spiritual houses in order we will stand the tests of time and feel the peace of our Heavenly Father.  I am grateful to know that one day we will see the face of our Heavenly Father and know that everything we have done, the way we have lived righteously, was done with a purpose.  Let us keep our heads held high and remember who we are.  Let us be positive and happy to live in such a beautiful nation full of promise and hope.

"Men may fall in this country, earthquakes may come, seas may heave beyond their bounds, there may be great drought, disaster, and hardship, but this nation, founded on principles laid down by men who God raised up, will never fail.  This is the cradle of humanity, where life on this earth began in the Garden of Eden. This is the place of the new Jerusalem. This is the place that the Lord said is favored above all other nations in all the world. this is the place where the Savior will come to His temple. This is the favored land in all the world. Yes, I repeat, men may fail, but this nation won't fail. I have faith in America: you must have faith in America, if we understand the teaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are living in a day when we must pay heed to these challenges. I plead with you NOT to preach pessimism. Preach that this is the greatest country in all the world. This is the favored land. This is the land of our forefathers. It is the nation that will stand despite whatever trails or crises it may yet have to pass through." -President Harold B. Lee

friday night calls for fun

First let me say that these pictures were taken at night and I have a horrible camera phone!

Brand and I had a pretty busy weekend, busy in a good way. Friday night we headed over to First Friday in  downtown Phoenix and had lots of fun! Remember when I said I couldn't wait till it started to cool down so that we could go exploring downtown? Well, it cooled off and we went exploring! It was such a great night and we had a delicious dinner, the soft pulled-pork with fresh arugula from the red wagon was the best! One of my favorite parts was seeing a beautiful church, we couldn't go inside, but for me there is always something special about cathedral churches. Maybe it's because they remind me be the spectacular Notre Dame Cathedral is Paris that has amazing stain glass and so much detailed art work around its archways.  Maybe its the history that they hold and the lives that have been in them. Either way, I'm a sucker for cathedral churches. I'd say our Friday night was a success, not to mention we ran into some old friends! Life couldn't be better!
